Product Design is one of the internationally established competitions for product design. Since 1955, it has recognised products that stand out for their high design quality.
At the core of the competition is the thorough evaluation by the independent Red Dot Jury. It examines all submissions in detail and discusses them regarding key aspects of good design – including function, usability, responsibility and aesthetic quality.
The jury is composed of internationally experienced experts from various disciplines. Submissions come from numerous countries and are assessed through a multi-stage evaluation process.
The Red Dot Design Museum Essen is the largest museum of contemporary design in the world. Located in the former boiler house of the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – it presents more than 2,000 award-winning products from over 50 nations across approximately 4,000 square metres.
The exhibition offers insights into the diversity and quality of contemporary design: from everyday objects to technological innovations, it showcases products that have been recognised in the Red Dot Award: Product Design.
The museum is a vibrant place of exchange and inspiration – for both professional audiences and the general public. Winning products from the current competition year are presented as part of the exhibitions “Design on Stage” and “Milestones in Contemporary Design”.
